Recap: What Senator Kim Heard at his Asbury Park Town Hall

Asbury Park, N.J. – Last week, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) was joined by hundreds of New Jerseyans in Asbury Park for his 11th town hall as a United States Senator. Senator Kim spoke about his experience at the Munich Security Conference and broke down what the United States entering into war with Iran would mean for our relationships with allies abroad and America’s own national security.

He also spoke of the impact ICE engagements have had on New Jersey, his visits to Delaney Hall, and of his goal to create New Jersey’s Einstein Corridor, which would bring jobs and investments back home to New Jersey communities. The Senator also provided updates on his caregiving journey after recently announcing his father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in late 2025

“At a time when our country is so divided, the conversations had last night remind me of what is possible when you bring people from all walks of life together to bring about positive change for their community,” said Senator Andy Kim.

Guests also heard from guest speaker Kay Harris, President of Asbury Park Museum and The Asbury Park Historical Society, who explained the importance of Asbury Park for the civil rights movement.

Throughout the evening, Senator Kim answered questions from the audience on topics such as:

·         The homelessness crisis New Jersey Veterans are experiencing and how we must do better to protect our service members

·         How The Save Act will create hurdles to disenfranchise millions of voters across this country if passed by Congress, creating fear of voter suppression as New Jersey prepares for the Midterms

·         The ongoing attack of the first amendment with actions like book-banning and censoring our kids in their school libraries

·         The wealth inequality that continues to exacerbate the affordability crisis, especially when it comes to housing and basic needs

·         The continued abuse of power by Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, and Department of Homeland Security, and how the Senator is using his role on the HSGAC committee to find solutions to this overreach

·         The War Powers Resolution that is currently working its way through Congress to try to reign in President Trump’s ability to bomb Iran

·         His goal to partner with Governor Sherrill to put working families first and use state and federal resources to help them find relief, including the work he is doing to eliminate the SALT tax to bring prices down for New Jersey families

·         Social Security and the need to ensure those who are contributing are able to access those funds when eligible

Following through on his long-held commitment to hold town halls, Senator Kim held 81 town halls before being sworn in to the Senate. Since joining the Senate, he’s held 11 town halls, reaching thousands of people across New Jersey.

Senator Kim is a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP); the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging. Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Kim represented New Jersey’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and was a career public servant working in national security and diplomacy at the White House, State Department, and Pentagon.
