Our Jersey Family
I’m the son of Korean immigrants, raised in South Jersey, and a proud father to two troublemaking boys. I’m also part of the “sandwich generation,” meaning I’m caring for my eight-year-old and ten-year-old, as well as my aging parents. New Jersey gave me and my family a shot at the American Dream and now, in the U.S. Senate, I’m fighting to ensure all of New Jersey has the same opportunity.
Early Life and Career
A Lifelong Public Servant
From 2019 to 2024, I represented my home community in the U.S. House of Representatives, but before my time in Congress, I worked as a career public servant under both Democrats and Republicans, serving at USAID, the Pentagon, the State Department, the White House National Security Council, and as a civilian advisor to top Generals in Afghanistan.

We live in a time when our politics has failed our communities and lost the trust of our neighbors. In the Senate, I’m fighting to make sure our government works for you, not just for those with the means and connections. In New Jersey, I’ve fought to make our elections fairer, and in Congress, I’ve spoken out against politicians enriching themselves and benefiting from big corporate money in our politics. My work is focused on meeting people where they’re at, and I promise to host regular town halls to hear directly from you.

Committee Work
Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs
On the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee (BHUA), Senator Kim is fighting to lower costs for New Jerseyans and ensure everyone has a shot at the American dream. In particular, he is focused on creating more affordable housing and more pathways to homeownership, expanding access to banking services in underserved communities, and promoting innovation. Senator Kim serves as the Ranking Member on the Committee’s National Security and International Trade and Finance Subcommittee, a position he uses to ensure that the United States remains prosperous and secure.
Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation
On the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee (CST), Senator Kim is driving efforts to keep the United States and our home state of New Jersey at the forefront of global innovation, strengthening our leadership in research and development, advanced manufacturing, emerging technology, shipbuilding, and critical infrastructure. Senator Kim is also committed to making regional transportation more affordable and reliable, securing strong investments for our nation’s most critical infrastructure projects like the Gateway Project, and strengthening our aviation safety and staffing.
Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
On the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), Senator Kim is fighting corruption and promoting transparent governance, standing up for the rights and well-being of federal employees, and holding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accountable. His work includes extensive oversight of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations with an eye towards addressing egregious immigration detention practices and building a more just and humane immigration system. As Ranking Member on the Subcommittee for Disaster Management, District of Columbia, and Census, Senator Kim is actively working to improve FEMA and our nation’s response to natural disasters, cyberattacks, and other catastrophic events. He is working hard to ensure that every New Jerseyan and American has access to the support they need when natural disasters strike.
Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions
On the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Senator Kim is working tirelessly for New Jersey families to lower costs and protect their ability to grow, live, work, and age with dignity. That means that he is fighting for access to affordable healthcare, high-quality education for all children, protections for American workers, and support for seniors and people with disabilities and their caregivers to enable them to live with dignity in their communities.
Committee on Aging
On the Senate Special Committee on Aging, Senator Kim is committed to fighting for economic and health security for older Americans. That includes protecting critical programs like Social Security and Medicare, strengthening long-term care supports and services, and ensuring every caregiver and person engaged in the care economy can have access to high quality resources and care for their loved ones. This will create a future so every older American and their families can live with peace of mind as they age.
