AI Assurance & Safety Testbed of Artificial Intelligence Systems Used in Public Service

Amount Requested: $1,500,000

Intended Recipient: Newark

Description: This project supports the development of an AI Assurance & Safety Testbed that will establish a scalable research & evaluation platform. This investment allows for the development & piloting of standardized methods for testing safety, reliability, security, & fairness of public service AI systems. 

Statewide Rollout of Say Something Anonymous Reporting System in NJ Schools

Amount Requested: $650,000

Intended Recipient: Newtown

Description: This project supports the statewide development of a Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (ARS) in NJ. This system empowers students, in both public & private schools, to anonymously report safety concerns & receive immediate, life-saving interventions to prevent violence & self-harm. 

Youth Violence & Juvenile Crime Prevention Initiative

Amount Requested: $550,000

Intended Recipient: Newark

Description: This funding expands the Youth Violence and Juvenile Crime Prevention Initiative, designed to reduce juvenile offending, prevent system penetration, and stabilize high-risk youth in their communities by emphasizing prevention, diversion, and stabilization. 

Youth Mentoring for Violence Prevention

Amount Requested: $200,000

Intended Recipient: Camden

Description: This project expands youth mentoring programs which will connect young people with mentors and strengthen partnerships with local organizations. This will support a prevention-focused approach to prevent youth violence. 

Bigs in Blue Program Expansion to Strengthen Community-Police Relations

Amount Requested: $1,000,000

Intended Recipient: Essex, Hudson & Union Counties

Description: This project supports the launch of an initiative to foster greater trust and connection between law enforcement, youth, and the community through mentoring and restorative justice meetings. 

Smart City Testbed: Municipal Energy Intelligence System (MEIS) 

Amount Requested: $1,000,000

Intended Recipient: Hoboken

Description: This funding supports the deployment of the Municipal Energy Intelligence System. Stevens University will provide real time energy measurement, modeling, & operational decision support to reduce energy cost exposure, strengthen infrastructure resilience & move towards grid modernization goals. 

Equipping AI Innovation Hub for Future Ready STEM Careers

Amount Requested: $727,000

Intended Recipient: Rutherford

Description: This project establishes a new, fully equipped AI Innovation Hub that will strengthen academic infrastructure, expand interdisciplinary STEM research capacity, and prepare students for high-growth careers in AI-enabled scientific and technical fields.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems Incident Response Training for First Responders

Amount Requested: $1,000,000

Intended Recipient: Washington

Description: This project supports the development and delivery of a regional training program that prepares first responders to recognize and safely manage incidents involving unmanned aircraft systems. 

ES3: Emergency Services Career Readiness: Creating a Pipeline for Jobs in Emergency Services Fields 

Amount Requested: $1,725,000

Intended Recipient: Atlantic

Description: This project supports a program to engage high school-aged youth in developing awareness, skills, and experience for careers in emergency service-related fields. The program will also provide youth with lasting life skills and broader awareness of careers and skills needed for job readiness. 

Youth Digital Safety and Law Enforcement Training Initiative

Amount Requested: $750,000

Intended Recipient: Cape May

Description: This project implements evidence-based training to help law enforcement, school resource officers, and frontline partners identify, prevent, and respond to online exploitation of minors. 

Monitoring Marine Biodiversity in New Jersey Using Cutting Edge Environmental DNA Techniques 

Amount Requested: $450,000

Intended Recipient: West Long Branch

Description: This project supports the further development of a pilot program collecting environmental DNA for marine biodiversity assessments. This program includes community engagement to increase awareness of factors affecting marine biodiversity & to encourage sustainable practices marine environments. 

Public Safety Communications Infrastructure Modernization Initiative

Amount Requested: $3,000,000

Intended Recipient: Somerville

Description: This project upgrades critical emergency communications infrastructure that supports the Somerset County 9-1-1 Communications Center and the countywide public safety radio network. The upgrades will modernize radio tower infrastructure, communications equipment, and dispatch center technology. 

Mobile Command Vehicle

Amount Requested: $1,333,000

Intended Recipient: Vineland

Description: This project supports the purchase of a new mobile command center for the City of Vineland. This investment will replace equipment that has reached the end of its useful life.

Police Vehicle and Traffic Safety Equipment Project

Amount Requested: $243,000

Intended Recipient: Lakehurst

Description: This project supports the purchase & outfitting of a new patrol vehicle & modern traffic safety equipment. This investment will improve officer response times, enhance traffic management on key roadways & reduce dangerous driving conditions for residents and motorists traveling through the Borough.

Radio Upgrades

Amount Requested: $600,000

Intended Recipient: Waretown

Description: This project supports the modernization of the emergency communications infrastructure for Ocean Township. This investment will replace outdated and limited interoperability with county and regional partners.  

Acquisition of Mobile Command Vehicle

Amount Requested: $4,205,000

Intended Recipient: Bridgewater

Description: This project supports the upgrade of radio communications for Bridgewater Township. This investment will streamline communications and allow for a more efficient emergency response and ensure compliance with Federal standards. 

Comprehensive Supports for Victims of Gang-Related Domestic Violence and Trafficking

Amount Requested: $650,000

Intended Recipient: Monmouth County

Description: This project supports the training of counselors to the specific needs of victims of gang violence and trafficking. This investment will allow 180: Turning Lives Around to provide case management for crime victims, coordination with law enforcement and counseling programs.

The Reentry and Holistic Advocacy Project

Amount Requested: $500,000

Intended Recipient: Camden

Description: This project increases the scope of the clinic’s existing in-person reentry support services and programming through staff expansion and the support of pro bono attorneys to advise, counsel and represent clients.

Internet Crimes Against Children Digital Forensic Capacity & Technology Project

Amount Requested: $651,000

Intended Recipient: New Jersey

Description: This project strengthens the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force’s digital laboratory by investing in critical forensic software and investigative technology necessary to identify offenders, rescue victims, reduce backlogs, and train investigators and forensic examiners.

Emergency Services Dispatch Upgrades Project

Amount Requested: $600,000

Intended Recipient: Bloomfield

Description: This project supports upgrades to the central dispatch for police, fire and emergency medical services located within the Department facility, bringing the Township’s facilities into compliance with state-wide mandates. 

Mile Square Shield

Amount Requested: $2,000,000

Intended Recipient: Hoboken

Description: The project upgrades Hoboken Police Dept’s 911 system and expand training and community education to fight cybercrime.

Facility Upgrades

Amount Requested: $1,476,000

Description: This funding supports the installation of radio communications equipment, purchase of furniture, fitness equipment, technology infrastructure, evidence management systems, and specialty systems for a newly constructed public safety building. 

Emergency Radio System Replacement Project

Amount Requested: $4,900,000

Intended Recipient: Fort Lee

Description: This funding supports the replacement of aging emergency radio infrastructure and will replace all emergency radio infrastructure with new equipment compliant with modern communications standards. 

Mobile Field Communications Unit and Communication Improvements

Amount Requested: $510,000

Intended Recipient: Hackensack

Description: This project supports the purchase of a mobile field communications unit to enhance communication and response to partners at all levels of government and allow for enhanced coordination and response to large scale events and emergencies. 

Communications Improvement Project

Amount Requested: $396,000

Intended Recipient: Aberdeen

Description: This funding will be used to purchase new radios and implement them successfully through the Aberdeen Police Department, increasing the public safety of Aberdeen and surrounding communities. 

Body-Worn Camera Project 

Amount Requested: $146,000

Intended Recipient: South Hackensack

Description: This project supports the purchase of body-worn cameras & associated software for the South Hackensack Police Department. New body-worn cameras will support officer & civilian safety, enhance problem-solving during investigations, & build trust between the police department & the community. 

Public Safety Equipment Procurement

Amount Requested: $30,000

Intended Recipient: Mantua

Description: This project supports the purchase of critical public safety equipment for its police department, including new duty firearms, updated portable radio systems, and enhanced building security through an upgraded access control system. 

Radio and Mobile Command Unit Project

Amount Requested: $1,200,000

Intended Recipient: Haledon

Description: This project supports the purchase of radios and a mobile command unit for the Haledon Police Department. This investment will ensure communications are compliant with new standards and ensure public safety at local events. 

Public Safety Interoperable Communications Upgrade

Amount Requested: $975,000

Intended Recipient: Hillsborough

Description: This project supports the purchase and deployment of 75 interoperable portable radios and related equipment for the Township of Hillsborough Police Department. This investment will replace outdated radios while improving interoperability with fire and EMS. 

Radio Communications Upgrade 

Amount Requested: $60,000

Intended Recipient: Norwood

Description: This project will replace outdated police radio equipment to meet the required 700 MHz public safety communications system to ensure reliable, interoperable communication with County dispatch and neighboring agencies.  

Communications System Modernization 

Amount Requested: $1,017,000

Intended Recipient: Spotswood

Description: This project will modernize public safety communications system by replacing aging radio equipment and infrastructure used by police and first responders. The funding will improve communication reliability, enhance officer safety, and strengthen interoperability. 

Radio Communications Upgrades 

Amount Requested: $503,000

Intended Recipient: Ho-Ho-Kus

Description: This project supports a comprehensive upgrade of the radio communications infrastructure for Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department. This investment will strengthen public safety infrastructure and ensure communications interoperability with all internal sources and outside agencies. 

Blue Light Emergency Call Boxes 

Amount Requested: $245,000

Intended Recipient: Lakewood

Description: This project supports the replacement of blue light emergency call boxes to ensure a safer, more secure campus and will help minimize delays in response to high-risk situations. This investment will replace outdated copper cable units which are no longer operable. 

Public Safety Camera Network Expansion – Phase III 

Amount Requested: 900,000

Intended Recipient: Union City

Description: This project supports the installation of additional hard-wired cameras and upgrade existing wireless locations to reliable hard-wired infrastructure to improve overall investigative capabilities. 

Acquisition of Four Police SUVs

Amount Requested: $300,000

Intended Recipient: Leonia

Description: This project supports the purchase of four police SUV vehicles for the Leonia Police Department.Â
