ICYMI - Senator Andy Kim: “What Happened Last Night in the Senate is a Disgrace”

November 11th, 2025

WASHINGTON D.C. – Last night, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) voted no on a government funding deal that failed to lower costs for the millions of Americans who rely on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for lifesaving healthcare.

See below for highlights:

X: Senator Kim released the following statement after the vote:

“What just happened on the Senate floor was a disgrace. In the same chamber where the nation watched Senator McCain show courage in saving the ACA, now we see a vote that will lead to millions losing healthcare. There is no excusing this. It’s a huge setback. But we must regroup, expose the cruelty of Trump’s actions, and never stop fighting for the right of healthcare for every American.”

CNN: CNN’s Manu Raju caught up with Senator Kim after the vote:

Senator Kim’s thoughts on the vote and frustration that no actions to lower healthcare costs were immediately taken:

“What just happened in the Senate chamber was an absolute disgrace – I can’t stress it enough. It was very profoundly disturbing to be there in that chamber where Senator McCain famously was able to stop the Republicans from gutting the Affordable Care Act. [The ACA] is what got me to step up to run for congress…I literally ran for congress in 2018 to protect our healthcare – to protect the Affordable Care Act. I’m really gutted right now.”
